Last Wednesday, July 8, Airbnb says its
system took bookings for more than one million nights’ worth of future stays at
its listings around the world.
That’s the first time booking volume has
been that high in a single day since March 3.
“At
Airbnb, we believe that people’s desire to safely connect and be with one
another has only grown stronger while we’ve been apart. Our business has not
recovered, but we are seeing encouraging signs,” the company says in a statement announcing
the data.

The July 8 bookings were made at Airbnb properties in more than
175 different countries and regions, the company says.
About half of the nights booked are for destinations
within 300 miles of the guest’s location, and two-thirds are for destinations
outside cities.
Airbnb’s announcement does not specify the period of time these
bookings cover, but the company does say “a significant portion of nights
booked” are for trips that will start on or before August 7.
More than 60% of the nights booked are for solo travelers or
those traveling with just one other person.
