- Ryanair will be looking to speed up its website this weekend when it closes the entire service for just over 24 hours for maintenance. The low cost carrier says the temporary suspension of the site from 2200 (BST) on Friday 18 May to midnight on Saturday 19 May will allow engineers to increase access times to the site three-fold as well as roll out a new SMS text alert service for delays. Passengers ordinarily hoping to check in during closure are being advised to do so on Friday 18 before the site goes down.
- Mynet Travel has developed a rail application enabling users to find out about service disruptions and share the information with others. The free app is designed to work with iPhone, selected Android devices and as a web app. Launch of the service comes days after newly launched National Rail Enquiries app developed in conjunction with Fortune Cookie.
- Hotel booking portal HRS estimates mobile will account for around 6% of all bookings during 2012. This figure will be approximately double that of 2011 and follows research by the company which found one third of business travellers have now booked a hotel room via a mobile device. HRS expects roughly 20% of all business trips will booked on a handset by 2014.
