Interesting collaboration between a tourism board and Google, with VisitBritain working with Google to produce a competition to find the best street in the UK.
The competition is due to launch tomorrow (Friday), but voting is already underway via the Street View Awards site provided by Google where users can view each street and select their favourite.
VisitBritain has worked with a string of high profile companies and travel specialists, including Lonely Planet, Mr & Mrs Smith and Vogue) to establish a shortlist of entries in three categories: Most Romantic Street, Best Shopping Street and Hippest Street.
Users can browse each entry on Streetview and then vote for a winner in each category.
VisitBritain is one of a number UK organisations working with Google on the project, now in its second year, but prompted by research which indicated 55% are using Streetview tools on Google Maps to plan their trips around their UK.
The poll closes on May 22 2011. The winning streets will be awarded a Google Street View Award trophy in June, presuming they are not one of those that objected to the Google cameras controversially poking about a few years ago when Streetview first launched.
