It should be an interesting next 24 hours for Virgin America and its passengers as its website and reservation system went offline in a scheduled switch to the SabreSonic reservation platform.
The low cost carrier, which currently uses reservations offerings from SITA and IBS, informed customers that its website and reservations system would be offline for 12 to 24 hours beginning at noon PST on Oct. 28 as the airline transitions to SabreSonic.
The airline was telling passengers to expect "longer than usual" hold times for its call center through Monday and advised customers to communicate with the airline via its Twitter account instead.
During the 12- to 24-hour period, there would be no access to account information for its Elevate loyalty program, as well.
Virgin America said it reduced its flight schedules and have extra staff on duty over the weekend.
After the switch to the Sabre reservations system, Virgin America hopes it will secure increased merchandising and codeshare opportunities.
