Malaysian taxi drivers have been rated the worst in the world for the past 5 years by some publications, such as LondonCabs.co.uk and The Expat magazine.
To help correct this image, TaxiMonger, Malyasia's online taxi booking service, hopes to raise $20,000 via crowdfunding platform PitchIn, to create a short film on the truth about Malaysian taxi drivers.
The startup is collaborating with the country's deputy minister of international trade and industry to get the word out about the campaign, which will seek donations now through Christmas Day.
Nizran Noordin, founder and CEO of TaxiMonger, says the short-film will amplify the voices of the majority of the country's 79,571 registered taxi drivers who he says are honest.
He's hoping expatriates will contribute to the funding of the film, which may turn out to be ten episodes of short-films lasting ten minutes each.
Small rewards are provided at each level of donation size. About $770 have been raised in the first four days of the campaign, so there's a long way to go.
Kudos to TaxiMonger for finding a creative way to help its customers, country and brand, all at the same time.
