Tourism New Zealand is flying with the drone trend via a campaign encouraging skiers to share videos taken from the sky across social networks.
The drones are being deployed on the destination's South Island mountain ranges this winter and the Tourism New Zealand drone will take a close up portrait before zooming out to give an overview of the local scenery.
The dronies, videos of about eight seconds, can then be shared on social media with the destination asking users to share via #NZdronie.
The plan is to also visit other areas of the region in the coming months including Queenstown and Lake Tekapo providing a new take on the holiday snapshot.
It's a quirky campaign that will resonate with the skiing community which is already riding the social and tech wave.
The initiative also ties in with research released last week revealing that the top current trends in destination marketing revolve around social and digital media.
Further details on where NZdronie is can be found on Pure New Zealand Instagram and Facebook pages.
