Google has recorded quite a spike in queries for last minute travel products from mobile devices in recent months.
Figures for the UK drawn from the second week of July show 41% of all air searches (desktop and mobile) came via a mobile device while 33% of accommodation queries were on mobile and 26% of holiday packages.
The figures demonstrate a hike in the use of mobile devices to search for last minute deals compared to the same period last year when 12% of total air searches, 10% of holiday packages and 6% of accommodation queries were made via mobile.
Google also recorded similar increases in the second quarter of the year with 40% of total last minute air queries coming via mobile and 27% of holiday package searches.
The search giant also reports a decline in searches via desktop computer with holiday packages queries in June down 12% year-on-year while mobile searches are up 177%.
For air searches, desktop queries were down 14% year-on-year but increased 211% via mobile devices.
Other recent research from Comscore, as well as this infographic from My Destination, support Google's findings and reflect the increasing use of mobile to research travel.
