Activity inspiration firm Goby upgraded its iPhone app to give you personal recommendations on things to do near your desired location "today," "this weekend" or in the "next 7 days."
For parents looking for something to do with their kids, hikers eager to find the next hill to climb, or singles desiring to mix it up with others scoping out their peers, the new Goby Fun Feed may just be a godsend.
Or Goby send, at least.
Here's how it works: You download the app and give Goby permission to access your location and Facebook account. The latest version of the free app then sets up your personal feed, based on your interests culled from your Facebook account.
You, of course, also have the option to manually select your interests instead of using Facebook.
If you granted Goby permission to comb your Facebook account, the app then informs you that it appears you are interested in things such as sports and games, arts and culture, and live music etc. and then maps your feed of possible activities today, this weekend or in the next seven days.
For example, it suggested I check out for this weekend the East Orange Golf Course in Short Hills, N.J.; , the Gaslight Brewery in South Orange, N.J., or Rare, The Steak House, in Little Falls, N.J.
Perhaps manually setting up your interests is an attractive alternative to having Goby pull your perceived interests from Facebook. I, sadly, haven't played golf in years and don't eat steak.
However, you get the idea.
You can bookmark the local venue you're interested in and share your planned adventure on Twitter, Facebook or by email.
"So, instead of having to search Goby, Goby will now bring you great recommendations for your weekend plans, based on your interests," Goby says.
And, the app would come in handy, too, if you are traveling and want to see what the entertainment possibilies are in your destination.
You can alter the recommendation feed to your destination of choice.
