Amadeus and Nvidia have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand their flight search collaboration.
The agreement builds on earlier work exploring ways to support faster, more scalable flight search as artificial intelligence (AI)-driven travel planning increases search volume and complexity.
“As AI transforms the travel ecosystem, maintaining fast, accurate and bookable flight search at global scale requires new approaches,” said Lutz Vorneweg, SVP of strategic partners for Amadeus. “As the neutral execution layer that orchestrates connections between travel providers, sellers and digital assistants, we are excited to work with Nvidia to explore how accelerated computing and AI technologies can help power the next generation of travel search.”
The collaboration will focus on three areas.
First, Amadeus and Nvidia will explore how accelerated computing can improve flight search speed and scalability.
Amadeus previously used Nvidia’s CUDA computing platform to leverage graphics processing unit (GPU) acceleration. The travel technology company adapted part of its flight search process to enable numerous simultaneous calculations.
Initial testing on Nvidia Hopper and Blackwell GPUs showed potential to improve response times and scalability, according to Amadeus. Further evaluation is planned across a wider range of travel search workloads.
Second, the companies are exploring the development of travel-specific foundation models, noting plans to work “in collaboration with other actors” to tackle industry-specific challenges.
Finally, the collaboration will examine ways to use cloud computing resources more efficiently as demand from AI-powered travel search grows.
This includes improving how resources are allocated and computing workloads are managed without compromising system performance and reliability.
Amadeus said the goal is to deliver flight search results quickly while ensuring that the options presented to travelers are available and bookable.
