The corporate travel world has been striving recently to make tools for the road traveller more like what they're used to using in the leisure world.
Put in very simplistic terms - make it easy and familiar and travellers are more likely to adopt it, abide by travel policy and everyone wins. Take it to the next level and companies who are not cool about mobile, apps and social networking might even find it hard to recruit the best people going forward.
Enter mobile specialist conTgo which says its latest mobile application covers off social, location and mobile for the corporate traveller.
So far, it has been pretty much the leisure world that has talked about SoLoMo.
The company says the app combines travel communication, social sharing and geo-location so travellers can stay in touch with the travel team back home for any alerts, changes etc. and use geo-location for local deals, general assistance or help in a crisis.
Alongside the development of the app, conTgo has also upgraded its MapCast traveller tracking system so that the two technologies work together thus ticking the corporate duty of care box.
Also, if there is no Wi-Fi the app falls back on SMS so travellers will still get the latest alerts.
Why is this interesting? It demonstrates convergence (albeit gradual) - of corporate and traveller thinking as well as between the world of business and leisure travel.
