Boxever has taken a look at how technology might improve the travel experience in the future highlighting developments such as biometrics, robots and sharing economy services in the sky.
The specialist in predictive marketing surveyed 500 travellers to gauge opinions on what tech they expect will improve the travel experience going forward.
Zoned cabins (e.g. sleeping, working, entertainment, family) and biometrics ranked highest although there is a lack of trust when it comes to airlines using biometrics such as fingerprints and retina scanning.
The Boxever report suggests it may take longer for travellers to get used to the idea of biometrics with less than 50% of those surveyed saying they would trust airlines with the technology:
- 66% say they don’t trust carriers to handle sensitive data
- 56% say they aren’t comfortable with biometrics at all
- 49% doubt that biometrics would actually improve the travel experience
However, if biometrics speeds up security and improves the experience then travellers are more up for it.
- 64% would be happy to use fingerprint ID to get through security
- 61% would be happy to use it to check in
- 54% would be happy to ditch the boarding pass and use fingerprint ID instead
Perhaps a little more out there but travellers also highlighted how sharing economy services might come to the skies and improve the inflight experience.
The study shows 20% believe on-demand services would improve the flight and 40% would consider inflight services offered by other passengers such as massages, manicures, business networking and training.
