- Doubles all round at EasyJet and app partner Mobile Travel Technologies after breaking the 750,000 downloads barrier. MTT claims the app is now being downloaded at a rate of around one per minute by passengers following its launch December 2011. To celebrate, customers can now - through a new version made available last week - share their travel plans via social networks.
- American Express is talking up its skills in the meetings and events sector and extending a platform trialled in North America. Meetings Expert is being brought to the UK, allowing companies looking to secure hotel space to negotiate contracts with property owners. The service also gives companies the opportunity to lock down additional items into a deal such as bedrooms, food and beverage.
- MyTab brings in social networking elements to its core online travel gift service. The US-based startup [TLabs Showcase - myTab] will now allow users to connect via Facebook to create travel present ideas as well as send gifts around their network.
- Targeting the next generation of international travellers seems to be catching on in Europe, with both Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam and Charles de Gaulle in Paris launching Chinese versions of their mobile apps. Released on Android and iPhone devices, directions, facility information, baggage services and flight details are now translated into Mandarin. The move coincides with Air France KLM extending its route network into China.
