- More appyness for Travelzoo as it launches its platform for Android handset users in the UK. The move follows the launch of the application for US users in February this year, helping the company support the 20% of users in both the US and UK who access its services via mobile devices. Travelzoo currently has around three million subscribers in the UK.
- Mapmobility, a large Canadian vendor of paper maps, is now offering a digital version of its Canada maps through Avenza's iOS PDF Maps app. After downloading the app, users can navigate the maps "offline" without having to incur data roaming charges.
- SpeedRFP, a request-for-proposal generator for the hotel industry, is celebrating a solid first third of 2012, claiming it has submitted inquiries for over 1.25 million room nights for nearly 9,500 events. Around a fifth of the room nights were received via wedding forms, a new service the company launched in February this year. Since launch the company has attracted almost 22,000 buyer-members, mostly in North and Latin America, and Europe.
- Swiss BelHotel International is now working with RateGain to deliver rate intelligence and parity audit technology to its portfolio of hotels around the world. The chain will use the India-based technology provider's software to monitor rate parity and track competitor rates and availability across it network of 80 hotels. The chain currently has properties in locations as wide as China, Australia, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the Philippines.
- Smart Destinations, which offers tour and attractions tickets in major US cities, introduced its Go Select mobile platform, enabling venues to accept mobile passes at their gates. Once consumers purchase tickets, go to the attraction and have QR codes on their mobile devices scanned at the gate, then admission fees are immediately credited to the attraction, the company says.
