- High hopes for tourism officials in the Maldives as they try to capture the attention of prospective visitors through a social media campaign this week. The Maldives Marketing and Public Relation Corporation (MMPRC) is aiming to get a hashtag (#sunnysideoflife) trending on Twitter in order to raise the profile of the country. It is asking visitors and industry partners to help out by sharing experiences and pictures of the islands.
- Digital switch for European car hire brand HolidayAutos with the appointment of Affilinet to run its continent-wide affiliate marketing programme. The campaign will go live over the course of the next few months in key markets such as the UK, France and Germany, ahead of a wider roll-out to Spain, Holland, Italy and Switzerland. Voucher code and cashback sites will be included in the scheme.
- Tucan Travel wants to take the agony out of obtaining Machu Picchu passes. The site has created a way to check availability of permits for the mountain tourist hotspot online, rather than what it claims is a "notoriously difficult" process of securing one of the 500 passes granted each day.
- Appy-ness for ScotRail, the UK rail operator, with the launch of a new Facebook service to encourage "fans" to enter competitions to win tickets for services and attractions. The twist comes when users share the app with their friends on the social network - they get an extra go to enter the competition every day.
