More mobile moves from TripAdvisor this week as it inks a deal with TheTrainLine to include product reviews and location-based tools on the European rail platform's iPhone app.
The user review giant claims the deal is a first for any European rail ticker retailer after creating a way for users of TheTrainLine's iPhone app to tie in their search for rail bookings with a facility to find products at the destination featured on the TripAdvisor system.
The announcement focuses on the non-hotel side of TripAdvisor's reviews and features, such as attractions and things-to-do, presumably because TheTrainLine has also recently signed a deal with LateRooms for hotel search and bookings.
The "What is Nearby" function appears on the station pages on the app, leading users to a list of every product within the vicinity, including reviews and the ability to save to a list of things-to-do.
While many of TripAdvisor's content partnerships in the past appear to have performed the same type of functionality, this is one of its first to be designed specifically for mobile users.
The tools also work via the iPhone's GPS technology, so TripAdvisor-held content is plotted on the same maps as other rail-related features such as the location of stations and other transport links.
