Over three in four Singapore consumers plan their travel less than a month in advance, reveals a new survey.
Market research company
GfK conducted a "Consumer Travel Tracker" study among 500 travellers in Singapore during April and May this year.
Key takeaways from the study are presented below:
- Short term planners: 76% of respondents made their booking in less than a month from the travel date. 45% of this respondents are in the age range of 26-35.
- Mid term planners: 14% of respondents booked their trip two to six months before the travel date.
- Long term planners: 10% of respondents booked their trip six months in advance.
- When it comes to trip planning sources, a majority of respondents (80%) planned their trip online. Friends, relatives and colleagues were the second top most source of travel planning for 40% of respondents. Travel agencies, travel fairs, and newspapers were the third most popular source of trip planning for 20% of respondents.
- Traditional brick-and-mortar travel agents remained popular for travel packages to other regions apart from Asia and Europe, according to less than a third of respondents.
- Travelers are more inclined to receive assistance for their bookings and planning from the agencies when traveling to unfamiliar regions, according to the study.
