Frommer's and NileGuide entered into a content and technology deal where NileGuide powers a portion of a new Itineraries tab on Frommers.com and Frommer's provides destination content to NileGuide.com for the first time.
Thus a traditional guidebook publisher, Frommer's, teams with NileGuide, a travel-planning publisher nurtured in Web 2.0.
With the Itineraries tab on Frommers.com, consumers can manually build their trips using Frommer's Day by Day Itinerary Planner or use NileGuide's search, filtering and list-building tools to customize their itineraries.
Previously on Frommers.com, consumers had to cut, paste or bookmark their travel ideas to build an itinerary.
The NileGuide tools on Frommers.com are initially available for Frommer's top two dozen or so destinations from Amsterdam to Washington, D.C.
In turn, says NileGuide CEO Josh Steinitz, NileGuide "users get access to the full archive of their [Frommer's] global travel content, which we’re integrating into NileGuide as we speak."
Frommer's content also will be available in NileGuide's latest iPhone app, What's Next.
NileGuide last week unveiled its API where it makes available much of its destination content to publishers for free.
However, third-party content, such as Frommer's, is not available to publishers over the API, Steinitz says.
Asked about the terms of the NileGuide-Frommer's deal, Steinitz says: "The terms of our deal with Frommer’s aren’t public. However, I can say that, along with important user benefits, we believe there’s an opportunity for meaningful potential business benefits to both companies."
