Thomas Cook is pushing out the PR today to plug the "company's first iPhone application", targeting younger travellers using its Club 18-30 tour operating brand.
Not mentioned in the announcement, however, is that the app is actually just a digital version of its existing offline glossy magazine, called Free.
Thomas Cook says the app, switched for iPhone and iPad by PixelMags, will not be extended to other mobile platforms as yet. The release of each edition will probably follow that of the magazine, a seasonal publication from Ink Publishing focusing on nightlife and other things to do in resorts covered by Club 18-30.
Although only announced today, Free has been in the app store since early-June, attracting some extremely negative comments in the process - "rubbish", says one.
Of the 14 ratings given so far, 12 gave one-star, with two others split between two and four stars.
