It makes sense that if Kayak is supposedly "one of a few" to include fares from American Airlines then it might as well make as much noise about it as possible.
Subscribers to news and alerts from Kayak, therefore, will have not been surprised this week to see the metasearch site push out a dedicated email campaign to plug its recently found hallowed position in online travel.
Of course, Kayak is never going to mention that "select" status also applies to Priceline and Travelocity, among the big players, but it obviously has an advantage over Orbitz and Expedia, both of which remain without flights from American Airlines.
Also, it turns out that Kayak has negotiated some kind of deal with American Airlines, giving users a 10% discount on the flagship service as well as American Eagle and American Connection, if they booking after coming through via Kayak.
When asked if Priceline will also get discounts, an official says such offers "require some system tweaking on this end" but it is being looked at.
Expect similar and upfront marketing from those with flights from American Airlines as the battle continues.
