The Aloft Hotels brand is trying another tech-heavy initiative to position itself as a forward-thinking chain: voice-activated room services.
The chain has introduced the technology at its US properties in Boston and Santa Clara this week, allowing guests to use an in-room iPad to issue commands.
The user says "Hello, Siri" into the device and then ask for different services or features.
For example, "Hey, Siri, cool the room", when it's too warm... Or "Hey, Siri, good morning" will turn on the lights.
If a guest wishes to find out what's nearby, they can say: "Hey, Siri, what are some of the attractions near me?"
Other features include finding out the weather or changing the in-room music (also works by signing into a user's iTunes playlist).
Brian McGuinness, global brand leader for Aloft Hotels, says:

"Today’s early adopter, hyper-connected global traveler wants a level of personalization unlike ever before, and that means being able to control their hotel experience with the sound of their voice."
The introduction of the voice-activated services follows other tech-led moves under the ongoing Project: Jetson programme.
The chain started emoji-based text services in December 2015 at some of its properties in the US and UK, as well as trialling a robot butler in the spring of 2014.
