Unclear so far as to the extent, but Expedia says its Twitter page suffered a security breach yesterday and at least one rogue tweet was seen by potentially almost 40,000 followers.
Posted at 10.30pm GMT (5.30pm EST), followers saw this tweet (the original has since been deleted, this is a grab from a version forwarded to Tnooz):
Around four hours later, Expedia notified followers of the issue and apologised.
This is not the first time a high-profile Twitter profile has been hacked in recent months.
In November, Cheapflights admitted a similar issue when an off-topic tweet appeared in its timeline, although on that occasion it remained in the account's timeline for over 36 hours.
The company later blamed a Malware attack for the breach.
