Cleartrip's latest quarterly look at accommodation trends shows that transactions have grown by nearly 100% in a year, driven by a trend towards short breaks.
It also noted that mobile bookings now accounted for around a third (37%) of its hotel business, a year after it added hotels to its mobile channel.
Most of its observations for the Oct-Dec quarter are illustrated in the infographic below.
Commenting on the figures, Cleartrip's chief revenue officer Amit Taneja notes that hotel prices were also on the increase, good news for Cleartrip and other sellers of Indian accommodation.
Overall, rates are 5% higher than the same quarter last year, with hotels in cities more than 10% ahead thanks to an uptick in demand from business travellers.
Launching a dedicated Weekend Getaways tool with big launch discounts and flash sales helped to generate interest in the idea of a short trip.
Taneja argues that "although Mumbai has a much higher proportion of destinations in the vicinity of the city, destinations around Delhi & Bangalore contributed to more than double the transactions, as compared to destinations around Mumbai."
