European carrier CityJet is rewarding shares via social media in addition to actual competition winners in its European Challenge based on Quick Response (QR) codes.
The airline is encouraging travellers to find and scan 18 QR codes hidden in airports across its network as well as on its Facebook and Twitter channels.
The codes direct users to CityJet's Facebook application where they can register for a chance to win a range of prizes as well as get hints on where the next code might be.
The use of QR codes technology has come under criticism in recent months for its poor use and impractical applications - see comments here.
The CityJet winner will be the person who has covered the most virtual miles when the competition closes on June 1.
But, and perhaps better, the person who has shared the competition with the most friends, gets flown to Dublin for a go in the airline's full-motion flight simulator.
CityJet says the promotion is perfect for its passengers who are social media loving smartphone carriers.
