American Airlines, which hasn't spoken publicly about its merchandising and distribution plans, issued a short statement on the subject.
Tnooz had contacted the airline to get its reaction to the letter sent to several airlines by the Business Travel Coalition and ASTA.
Without getting into specifics, American Airlines stated:
"In the recent weeks there have been much speculation and some misinformation surrounding American Airlines intentions on how it will distribute content in the future and our ‘Merchandising’ -- unbundling and/or rebundling of optional services -- efforts [which] might or might not impact the travel industry.
"For the record, American Airlines has not declared it will charge agencies or customers for content or withhold content. We fully intend to make available our content for our travel agent partners going forward and will provide additional details about our distribution plans at the appropriate time."
The statement leaves a lot of unanswered questions, of course, about the "additional details."
