It used to be, as the saying goes, that timing was more an art than a science. Using one's instinct rather than calculating it.
But a raft of new companies using big data analytics aims to change this by telling you the best point in time to buy everything from a sofa to a plane ticket.
Nathan Sharp wanted to buy a pair of skis, but it was September and he knew the skis might end up gathering dust and taking up space in his closet until the ski season started in December.
So should he buy now, or wait and risk that the price would rise?
