- Review site HolidayTruths has been revamped to bring it up to date and make it easier to use. The site was acquired by Chris Brown last after his departure from sunshine.co.uk, which he co-founded. The relaunched holidaytruths features a smarter search facility, new accommodation pages and a new blog with travel news. Brown is not a newcomer to review sites having launched Holidaywatchdog in 2003 and later selling it to TripAdvisor.
- Japan's MIWA Lock Company and OpenWays Mobile Key have combined their skills to provide a hotel door security system enabling guests to bypass the front desk. By integrating OpenWays Crypto Acoustic Credential platform with MIWA's electronic locking system guests can use mobile phones as a room key. The devices use an acoustic key which is received via text instructions or a smartphone application. The technology is being launched at Hitec in Baltimore this week.
- FarePortal has recruited Pete Howard to its executive board in the role of chief marketing officer. Prior to the position, Howard spent more than 10 years with office supply specialist Staples most recently managing the European e-commerce and catalogue division.
- CoMMingle Social + has been developed to help hotels to stay on top of emerging social media channels. The service has been launched by Lodging Interactive and its social media marketing agency CoMMingle and manages hotels' presence on social networks they want to engage in but don't have the internal resources.
