Tripwolf, one of the web's early trip planning sites, has relaunched its smartphone application so consumers can use it without incurring expensive roaming charges.
The company (through its iPhone app) is the latest in a line of providers to make some of the core functionality available without the need to connect to the web, as mobile network operators continue to charge fees prohibitive to many travellers.
To coincide with the launch of the new app, Tripwolf has also dropped its download fees for a limited time to boost the app's distribution in the travel mobile marketplace.
The new app, as well as throwing much of the content into an offline mode, contains the existing augmented reality system as well as hotel and restaurant reviews.
The discounted download for the app is expected to the last for a week or so, CEO Sebastian Heinzel says.
He adds:

"We are confident that we can win over future (paying) customers with the new app, but we are conscious that the tripwolf brand is still not widely known, so we have to get it out there."
