Rail online travel agency TicketClever has picked up additional investment funds by way of selling a fifth of the company to the Stagecoach Group.
The 20% sale of Global Travel Ventures, parent company of TicketClever, comes just five months after the OTA went live in the UK (TLabs here).
Terms of the sale/investment have not been disclosed.
The consumer-facing brand is hoping to make a mark in the competitive world of UK rail ticket selling by working out combinations of fares from the various operators that work the UK rail network - a normally complex task for the passenger given the multiple providers and tickets that are placed into the distribution chain.
GVT is headed by Jeremy Acklam, founder of TicketClever competitor from the 1990s, Trainline, with Alan Tomlin (also from the Trainline parish) as executive chairman.
Stagecoach is no stranger to rail in the UK, being part owner of Virgin Rail and East Midlands Trains (both are operators on the TicketClever platform), as well as multiple bus and coach companies across the country.
