Trippiece, a Japan-based user generated content-led travel planner, has secured a funding of $2 million from Draper Nexus Venture Partners and other investors.
The company, headquartered in Tokyo, also added Fumiaki Koizumi to its board of directors. Koizumi has previously worked with Mixi, Japan's social network portal.
With the investment, Trippiece says it has plans to develop smartphone apps and improve operations.
The startup is planning to launch a corporate membership plan, and arrange tours accompanied by entertainers or performers.
Currently there are about 1,400 travel plans available on the site. Every week, about 100 to 200 users take trips using these plans, Trippiece claims.
Trippiece was launched in March 2011. In May 2011, it received a seed fund worth $35,000 from Samurai Incubate Fund, and in January 2012, an additional $50,000 of funding was secured from Movida Japan.
