Qatar Airways takes globetrotting route with Tweet a Meet campaignNewsBy Linda Fox | July 4, 2012Share This article was originally published on Maybe it's a summertime thing or, maybe it's more to do with travel and tourism companies feeling more comfortable with social media but recent weeks have seen a number of quirky Facebook and Twitter campaigns.The @Sweden one caused a bit of a storm but not enough to put @Netherlanders off because it has just unveiled an equivalent.Others, namely Estonian Air with its Facebook app and BalticMiles with its crowdsourced loyalty scheme have also come forward with their own campaigns.Step forward Qatar Airways which has unveiled a Tweet-a-Meet initiative, in conjunction with brand agency Batey, to get people to tweet about its destinations, earn Tweet miles and those with the most tweets will be heading off into the sunset.All you have to do is register on the microsite, invite a companion from among your Twitter followers, select a destination served by the airline and work together to produce and tweet travel tips on the destination.The microsite will also feature a leaderboard to keep participants up to speed with how they're doing.There have been a number of real attempts to tweet across the globe with @twitchhiker (aka Paul Smith) one of the first.
