SOCIAL: After years of the same old thing on Twitter and Facebook, technology is finally to start the stretch the boundaries of what social media can be. Many of the platforms will get a brief moment of glory before fading rapidly, but when something is backed and pushed by Twitter and in large user base (as in the case of Periscope) then longevity has a chance and some interesting use cases emerge. The new live-streaming app, launched at the end of March by Twitter as a killer of Meerkat, has caused a flurry of excitement.
It’s not that live-streaming is new – Ustream and Justin.tv (RIP) have been around for years – but the availability of the medium on portable devices, seems a game changer.
