A bit behind schedule, but Amadeus has finally rolled out its Affinity Shopper-type flight search tool to an online travel agency, the Nordic online travel agency eTraveli.
Lufthansa was the launch partner of the airline version of the product and the OTA version has been dubbed Amadeus Extreme Search.
Both Extreme Search for online travel agencies and Affinity Shopper for airlines are geared for travelers with no firm destination in mind. They can ask open-ended questions such as "where can I go for a family vacation in Europe for under €600?"
The airline or OTA site then accesses pricing and availability information from Amadeus and uses Amadeus Master Pricer to book the flights.
eTraveli, which operates nearly a dozen sites in the Nordic countries, is piloting Extreme Search on Supersaver/Supersavertravel in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
SuperSaverTravel is beta testing the tool, which it brands as GoHappy.
In August 2010, Amadeus said it would be rolling out Affinity Shopper under a then as yet to be determined brand name (now called Extreme Search) before the end of 2010 and that a European and an Asian OTA were slated to trial it.
Now, it turns out, eTraveli is the European OTA and MakeMyTrip.com of India is the Asian OTA.
Amadeus says MakeMyTrip will pilot Extreme Search later this year.
Amadeus says "in the near future," it plans to widen the expanse of Affinity Shopper/Extreme Search to include low cost carriers and high-speed rail.
