The Big Apple and Paris are the next big targets for GetTaxi after securing a sizeable investment round of £13 million from Access Industries to spearhead its expansion.
The company has already launched in the UK capital of London and is plotting its first foray across the Atlantic to capture both business and leisure travellers, as well as locals, using the thousands of yellow cabs in New York City.
The latest injection of capital follows the £7 million already pumped in to the company, also from Len Blavatnik's Access Industries. GetTaxi founders Shahar Waiser and Roi More also participated in the round.
The service is a iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Symbian application which allows users to order registered taxis in a city (the famous Black Cabs in London, for example) from their handsets, find pick-up points on a map and location of the taxi from the user, rate the driver of a vehicle and pay with a credit card.
The company says it has already attracted over 400 enterprise clients and has around 2,500 cabs using the GetTaxi technology. More 400,000 downloads of the app have been made since the company launched in 2010 and 15 cities (mostly in Israel) are now included on the system, including Moscow.
