An institutional round to the tune of almost £2 million is in the hands of FatMap, a 3D mapping service for activities such as skiing and mountain biking.
Backing the company are Episode 1 and Capnamic Ventures, venture capital funds from the UK and Germany respectively.
The service launched in a series of ski resorts in Europe, Canada and the US in 2014 in a move to give skiers and summer visitors to a destination the ability to plan, explore and share their experiences.
FatMap displays terrain data and also integrates guidebook-style content into the mobile application, giving users a virtual reality-type environment with which to find their way around a destination.
Similar to other mobile applications such as Ski Tracks, FatMap also acts as a way of charting a visitor's progress as they move around the resort, either on skis or other method.
FatMap says it will use the funding - coupled with an angel round of just under £1 million earlier this year - to expand the app to other activities as well as opening up the platform to third parties.
