Ebookers reckons it is the first online travel agency in Europe to develop and mobile-ready website for users to select every product and manage their bookings.
The Orbitz Worldwide-owned OTA says trials of the new service, available on m.ebookers.com, saw that 70% of hotel bookings made through the site were for same-day check-in, on contrast to 15% on its existing desktop version.
Although rival OTAs such as Booking.com have had a fully-functioning mobile web service for hotel booking for some time, Ebookers claims it is the first to offer booking across its range of products via a handset including flights, hotels and car hire.
The mobile version mirrors that of the desktop service and is available in local languages in all of the 12 markets in which Ebookers currently operates.
Perhaps one important element of the new mobile service is the inclusion of a system to allow customers to view bookings after payment, a handy function for users en route or in-resort.
But claiming mobile firsts will no doubt be the mainstay of travel PR for some time to come as brands build dedicated mobile web versions of their online offering.
Users can search and book on existing websites via a mobile, but the user experience is often poor and not suited to the mobile device.
