Day in, day out the industry hears about pent-up demand and how travelers react when borders reopen.
What is less talked about is the impact on technology.
During the Phocuswright Conference 2021 last month, Sebastien Gibergues, vice president of digital travel search and inspire at Amadeus, discussed the correlation between the lifting of travel restrictions and search transactions.
He said that with seasonality impacted and a much later decision process on destinations from consumers, there are direct implications for technology and specifically artificial intelligence.
Gibergues said that while AI is used to predict and optimize search, now it has to be retrained according to current trends.
He also touched on increased complexity for travel retailers and how technologies such as virtual interlining have become a necessity.
