Airbnb is to terminate the affiliate internet programme it had in place for around 100 third-party websites.
The scheme will end on 15 December and each participant was given a 15-day notice period that the programme would end.
Websites earned a commission from bookings on Airbnb that were made from users that clicked out from a third-party website.
It is different from the referral partnership which allowes individuals to earn credits on their Airbnb account when they refer someone to the service and a booking was made (the person making the booking also obtains a discount).
The termination of the affiliate internet programme will not affect the partnership that Airbnb has with Hipmunk to power its accommodation search channel which was introduced in November 2011.
Airbnb has not explained its reasons for ending the programme, but the move comes as the site continues to gain popularity and exposure around the world and the company may be seeking to narrow the channels that are available for consumers to reach and book inventory.
