WorldMate launched its first dedicated iPad app and, among the features, it enables road warriors to view their LinkedIn connections within their destination.
Visible as you view your itinerary, this LinkedIn integration, which is also available in WorldMate's iPhone app, could come in handy if you want to arrange a quick meeting -- or perhaps to keep tabs on a frenemy within your network.
WorldMate figures out which of your LinkedIn connections are in the neighborhood by cross-referencing itineraries and LinkedIn profiles, says Ian Berman, WorldMate's vice president, business development.
There is also a manual way to look up where your LinkedIn connections may be so you can determine which ones are currently near you, in your home city, at your upcoming destinations or will be traveling to your home city.
In the following image you can see the LinkedIn colleagues who will be nearby during an upcoming trip.
If your LinkedIn connections designate their trips in WorldMate as "private," then their profile will appear as being in their home city only, Berman says.
In addition to enabling users to carry out such functions as organizing and sharing their itineraries, the WorldMate iPad app integrates Yelp enables users to conduct proximity searches for dining, nightlife and shopping based on itinerary elements, Berman adds.
