Travelocity will randomly hand out a vacation for two to Maui or Vail, Colo., after completing its just-launched beach or ski Facebook vote, but the online travel agency, too, will assuredly come up a winner.
Existing fans of Travelocity’s Facebook page can immediately vote for Vail or Maui to enter the contest, while nonmembers merely need to click on a “like” button to get the contest under way.
On March 14, when the contest ends, Travelocity will randomly select a winner, who will receive a five-night vacation for two in Maui, including spa treatment, or five nights in Vail with lift tickets. Continental Airlines will provide the ride.
U.S. and Canadian residents are eligible for the contest.
But, consider all of the achievements that Travelocity can check off along the way.
The online travel agency will drive engagement with consumers on Facebook and bolster the social graph information it garners through “likes.”
There is additional demographic and other information that Travelocity will gain about new potential customers. To vote, you have to enter your name, hometown, email address and birthday.
When the promotion ends, everyone receives a $100 promotional code toward a hotel booking if booked on Travelocity for the winning destination when using an American Express card.
So Travelocity will generate incremental bookings in a high-margin business to popular destinations and promotes partner American Express, as well.
Overall, it looks like a win-win for Travelocity -- and some lucky beach or ski fanatic.
