Mobile trip itinerary assistant TripChill wants users to Tweet their way through their travels by using a new tool to notify selected friends of milestones along a journey.
The simplest execution of the service allows a member to update their Twitter account from within their mobile TripChill application, similar to other Twitter connections with a range of travel managements systems.
The more advanced - and interesting - functionality lets users create databases of Twitter friends so that they can be sent a private direct message at different points along a trip.
The integration covers such eventualities as missed or cancelled flights, delays, diversions or unplanned overnight stays.
The system works by using the existing Twitter API system to stream a user's follower list into the TripChill platform.
A user can then set up a series of rules to determine which friends should be notified in the event of a change of travel plans.
The alerts or messages can be sent direct from the user's handset on the TripChill website or via the TripChill apps on the iPhone or Android platforms.
The entire service is also manageable from the apps.
