In today's edition: Satnav joy for Avis and Budget, economic woes pushing greater use of video conferencing in corporations.
This is the regular Tnooz roundup of product news from around the travel, tourism and hospitality industry, all with a technology, online and digital twist - Monday 25 April 2011.
- Avis and Budget apparently know where they are headed in terms of offering their car-rental customers add-on services and apparently a whole bunch of renters are confident in their direction, as well. Parent company Avis Budget Group says customers have added the where2 GPS navigation advice to more than 5 million car rentals since it was introducted in 2006. The device, manufactured by Garmin, is available for Avis and Budget rentals in the US, Puerto Rico, Canada and Australia.
- Constrained travel budgets and reduced operational costs may be driving forces in increased adoption of video conferencing. While half of companies in a CDW survey indicated they already use some types of video conferencing, another 25% said they plan to begin using the technology within two years. The survey queried 631 IT professionals and telecom managers at US companies.
