Austrian Airlines has signed up for Sabre Airline Solutions' new mobile-enhanced eFlight Manager and will roll it out across its entire business after a successful three-month trial.
The product allows pilots and the crew to remain in contact with airline staff on the ground. The idea is that real-time updates can be delivered directly to the crew's devices, allowing them to make decisions based on the most up-to-date information.
It also works the other way round - data can be sent from the plane to the ground during the flight and analysed afterwards.
Sabre said that it had worked with Austrian to develop the mobile capabilities of eFlight Manager. It has been running a trial since the start of November and plans to deploy it across its entire fleet over the next few months, giving access to 950 staff.
Capt. Dr. Philipp Haller, an A320 pilot for Austrian, said:

"[We] have been using Electronic Flight Bags for more than 10 years and eFlight Manager enables us to establish a complete paper-free briefing process including continuous inflight optimisation."
