Aviation technology specialist SITA has acquired MEXIA Interactive, a company that specializes in passenger analytics.
The acquisition of the Canada-based company is expected to improve SITA’s existing capabilities around airport passenger flow and queue management.
MEXIA’s technology enables airports to predict where bottlenecks may arise across check-in, security and taxi lines. Its systems also monitor how much time passengers spend in airports, which can help airports with operations but also aid retailers with shopper numbers, conversion rates and other trends.
Barbara Dalibard, CEO of SITA, says: “With the acquisition of MEXIA we will strengthen our airport portfolio, providing our customers with automated predictive analytics and detailed passenger flow management throughout the airport.”

The company says it also plans to boost MEXIA’s capabilities with artificial intelligence expertise from its own Montreal-based team.
SITA’s latest Air Transport IT Insights Survey shows use of “wait-time monitoring” has increased from 31% of airports last year to 42%.
MEXIA’s systems will add to SITA’s existing airport operations and passenger management technologies.
