Four months on from its initial launch, Pintrips is now fully open and expanding its "pinning" model so that its users can recommend flights to fellow travellers.
Originally unveiled in December last year as a way for users to search flights, pin any they're interested in and track changes to a fare's price and availability, Pintrips marked its official launch this week with the addition of a way to publicly share their pins with others.
The idea is the wider Pintrips community will eventually be able to highlight the best deals for fellow travellers, based on their own experiences with the site.
For example, a London to Boston route will have its own dedicated board with a number of flight options pinned to it from other users who have found a good deal.
They may have tracked a particular carrier or time of a flight which consistently comes in at a good price, thus allowing others to do the same and secure a decent fare.
That's the idea anyway.
Pintrips says the public boards for a given route, carrying pins from the site's users, will be optimised for search engines such as Google, with a view to spreading its brand but also appealing to what it hopes will be aviation buffs using the site.

"If you are the expert for London to New York, you can make a board and make it public to share with the world. So people who are the gurus and deal hounds, will want their 'finds' to be 'found' – and thus, a viral growth of flight crowd-sourcing."
