French accommodation provider Pierre & Vacances is hoping visitors to its website are prepared to go native ahead of their trip by playing a web version of Petanque.
The game, known as Petanque3D and created by UK-based web game develoer Matmi, is a simple version of the famous French pastime where participants attempt to throw a series of balls as near to small wooden ball (cochonnet).
The web version allows multiple users to compete against one another in various locations around France and at different skill levels.
The graphics and usability borrow heavily from the Second Life 3D model of a few years back.
P&V has added a competition element to the game, giving users the chance to win a holiday to France and other prizes.
The downside? Needs an upgraded Flash plug-in and plenty of patience during loading time.
