Oyster is the latest to sell up as TripAdvisor continues acquisition spreeNewsBy Linda Fox | October 15, 2013Share This article was originally published on TripAdvisor has acquired hotel review service Oyster with terms of the deal undisclosed.New York-based Oyster will continue to operate out of the city and be incorporated into Smarter Travel Media, TripAdvisor's media group which also includes Bookingbuddy.A brief statement from TripAdvisor says Oyster will be a "strong addition" to the TripAdvisor brand.The statement also says Oyster has collected reviews and photos of about 150 cities.Oyster, which started as a professional reviews service, has received about $20 million in funding in recent years and planned to have 10,000 hotel reviews by the end of this year.The company also experimented with various monetisation ideas trying its hand at hotel transactions in the early days with its own hotel booking engine but later dropped the idea in favour of transferring customers to online travel agencies and hotel websites.This is the latest in a string of acquisitions for TripAdvisor which this year acquired Jetsetter in April and flight and airport information application GateGuru in June.Terms for both deals were again undisclosed.
