NCR acquired Mobiqa, which provides mobile boarding passes to the airline industry.
In making the deal, the terms of which were not disclosed, NCR plans to establish a mobile center in Edinburgh, Scotland, which will initially target the travel industry.
NCR is active in producing and managing self-service kiosks for the airline and car rental industries, and could use the Mobiqa acquisition to further NCR's goal of providing interconnectivity between self-service mobile, kiosk and online channels.
In addition to travel, Mobiqa targets the entertainment and retail sectors.
Mobiqa's airline customers include Qatar Airways, Olympic Air, Aegean, Vueling, Spanair and LOT.
Mobiqa, based in Edinburgh, says it is active in standards organizations, including the International Air Transport Association, which has mandated that all airline use barcode boarding passes -- replacing magnetic stripe boarding passes -- by the end of 2010.
Mobiqa says it uses SMS, MMS, web link and email to deliver barcodes to mobile phones.
