Plenty of travel smartphone applications emerging these days, but not that many that promote strip poker and allow the creation of travel playlists as well as booking a hotel.
This is the idea from upmarket hotel directory and booking service Mr & Mrs Smith with the release of its first mobile app (hitting the Apple iPhone first) this week.
Split into two distinct areas, known as Plan and Play, Mr and Mrs Smith says it wants provide not only practical functionality but also the rather naughty cheekiness of the brand to its debut on mobile devices.
The serious side (Plan) allows users to search the M&MS collection of hand-picked hotels and check real-time availability. Bookings are made online after clicking through from the property, or directly from the handset via the existing call centre.
Property pages have the usual description content and a pinpoint function on a map. Smith's deal service is also included in the application.
The fun bit comes via the Play section. A Truth or Dare slider selects hotel properties at the search phase based on how risqué the user is feeling (!), while a series of How To guides outline how to play strip poker, plan a romantic picnic, mix a cocktail, etc.
Perhaps the most interesting tool in the Play section is TuneSmith, a soundtrack generator for a user's trip, using the iTunes playlist functionality on the handset. Cute integration, if nothing else.
