Some interesting data shared recently by European rental car comparison site HappyCar that illustrates the gradual shift to mobile bookings.
First of all the company looked at the increase in the percentage of rental car bookings made by smartphones in just the past three months.
The results in the markets examined - Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands - may of course be affected by seasonal trends as more tourists arrive in particular destinations, but clearly some markets are more developed than others.
The corresponding data for desktop...
And tablet...
The development of travel bookings is mixed, says managing director Alex Wessels, although he predicts there will be a boost in the near future as and when a new wave of tablets causes ripples in various markets.
But perhaps where the data gets really interesting is by diving deeper in the results to see at what points each day or during a week where a device or desktop is favoured over another.
Mobile bookings are clearly more popular (almost on a par with desktops) with desktops in the earlier part of a day, until users are presumably at their places of work.
