The new Lufthansa for iPad app is available globally in English or German and it caters to people looking for a little travel inspiration and also to the practically minded traveler.
On the inspiration front, the Experience Lufthansa section affords a 3-D rendition of the airline's new European cabin, and there are 360-degree views of the A380 cockpit, along with a selection of videos.
With all of the buzz these days about the mammoth A380, the largest passenger airline on the planet, you can also find Lufthansa wallpaper images of the double-decker aircraft, which are available for free downloads.
Then there's also a City Tips section, replete with photo galleries and travel information covering 70 international cities.
Lufthansa says the centerpiece of its free iPad app is an interactive world map, enabling you to tap your way from origin to destination airports and then to booking your flights.
On the practical side, Lufthansa for iPad enables you to check-in and use an interactive feature to select your seats, and you can also access a booking summary and view your Miles & More account balance.
The iPad app signals the expansiveness of Luthansa's mobile strategy. In addition to a mobile website, mobile.lufthansa.com, and its iPad app, the airline has created mobile apps for the iPhone, Blackberry, Android and J2ME smartphones.
Lufthansa certainly is keen on milking the inspiration side of travel. In addition to the iPad app, it currently uses its vacation-inspiration Trip Finder tool on seven country sites and is testing it in Russia.
